Window and Door INstallations, How long will it take???

So you have decided to move forward with us on your door or window project. Now as you anxiously await the day of installation, you are wondering how long we will be in your home for the installation? There are many factors that go into giving a definitive answer.  We are going to help you get a good understanding of what timeframes typically look like.

   Door Installations

For doors, one determining factor is how many doors we will be installing. Obviously the more doors you have to install the longer the job will take. Another factor would be what type of door we are installing. A single door takes less time than a double door to install and typically exterior door take longer than interior doors. Typically speaking a single entry door installation takes between 1 ½ to 2 hours depending on what all needs to be done. A standard door with sidelites will usually take between 2-4 hours. 2-4 hours is usually a good estimate for a double door or sliding door installation. Interior doors do take a little less time to install. A single interior door will take about 1 – 1 ½ hours to install while a double interior door will take about 1 ½ – 2 hours to install. For those of you who have multiple doors being installed, these times will be similar but after the first door the time will taper off as we are already setup with tools and materials from the initial installation. Majority of multiple door installations are done in 1 day but if we know there are added levels of difficulty we normally will make sure to schedule additional days as needed before the installation starts.

There are also many factors that go into how long it takes for window installations. One is quantity, the more you are having replaced the longer the install will take. Second the type of installation will determine how long your installation will take. For example, removing wood windows have a quicker removal process than a metal window tear out making a wood tear out install take less time than a metal tear out situation. The last major factor for window installation is size and accessibility. Oversized windows take longer than standard size windows and windows on ground level take less time than ones that need ladder work or scaffolding to complete. But to give an idea of a standard size window with an easy location with a wood removal will run about 30-45 mins for one window. A metal tear out with similar conditions would be closer to 45 mins to 1 hour to complete the installation. Most whole house window installs can be completed in 1-2 days but some cases additional days are needed due to quantity, style and difficulty.  Check out this video on removing a wood window. https://youtu.be/6H91l_sroGc

In conclusion, majority of our installations will not be more than one day for basic and smaller projects. While some jobs will take more than one day to complete depending on the factors discussed above. We do our best to make the best judgement call on installation projects timelines  prior to installation to minimize our customers schedule interruptions.
